Fractional sloop with self-tacking headsail

A very well looked after one-owner example of the Hanse 345, a modern fast cruiser designed for easy handling by a family crew. This is the single aft cabin version, giving a large heads with separate shower area, and a huge amount of locker space. The deep bulbed keel gives good performance, and the rig has a self-tacking headsail. The engine is the optional larger 27 hp type with a folding prop. She has a good cruising inventory and has just been brought ashore for the winter - the photos here were mostly taken hours after liftout.

Sailplan

The Hanse 345 was designed by Judel/Vrolijk for Hanse Yachts as an update from the earlier Hanse 355. Although shorter overall than the 355, the hull waterline is almost identical, and performance and accommodation are very similar.

She is a modern beamy yacht with twin wheels, clearly aimed as being a fast cruiser rather than an out and out racer. This example is the "owners" version with a single aft cabin, meaning a larger heads compartment than the twin aft cabin "charter" version, plus a huge cockpit locker. With twin wheels the cockpit is spacious, and the transom hinges down to form a large bathing platform, yet when up offers security when sailing. The standard engine is an 18 hp Volvo, but this yacht has the optional larger 27 hp D1-30 engine with a folding prop.

The hull and deck have isopthalic gelcoats and a first layer of vinylester resins, the remainder of the the layups being DCPD and orthopthalic resins. The hull is solid GRP and the deck is a balsa sandwich.

When introduced 'Yachting Monthly' sail tested the design (in a Force 6-7) and stated ".... Thanks to the self-tacker and 'winches-at the-wheel' layout, she's very easy for one person to handle and feels great at Ihe wheel. The Judel!Vrolijk hull means performance is lively, which cuts down passage times in most conditions, but never out of control, so you won't frighten the children, and you don't need years of experience to get the best out of her. Down below she's got everylhing you might need for a comfortable week's family cruise, and at anchor the cockpit turns inlo a waterside terrace".
